She departed peacefully from her home in Tenafly, NJ where she had lived for 63 years. Her
children were at her bedside along with her devoted aide, Maria, and Nurse Helen, the most marvelous of hospice
nurses.
Arlene joins her adored brother Morty and her husband, Julius Jacob, the love of her life.
Arlene is survived by her children, a daughter Laura and a son Peter, and her beloved grandchildren, Lauren Frazier
(and her husband, Mike), Cailey Grunwerg and Zachery Grunwerg and a Grandkitten, Cozy Comforter, who loved to
lick the coconut oil off her feet.
Arlene was born in Jersey City on July 31, 1920, the daughter of Rose and Louis Enowitz. She grew up in West New York on Boulevard East,
a chubby child who became a beauty. She attended NYU for a year, majoring in Physical Education. Although not a scholar, she was one smart
cookie. We called her Princess and most recently, the Little Monkey.
She was a natural athlete who played racquetball and tennis well into her seventies.
She loved to dance and had all the attendants in the hospital promising to take her out for a spin. She was a big
flirt but all talk when it came to putting out.
Arlene resides next to her husband, Julius, at the Riverside Cemetery in Saddle Brook, NJ. Their sides of the
bed have flipped, so I'm not sure how that's going to work out. Come visit. She loves company.
Arlene died from a debilitating lung condition called COPD at the age of 95 ½. If she hadn't been a smoker, she
would have lived another 95 years, that is certain. If you want to honor her memory, please donate to stem cell research
for COPD or the Holy Name Medical Center Hospice and Palliative Services in Teaneck, NJ. And for godsake,
stop smoking and stop those you love from smoking.
The Funeral service was held 12:30 PM Friday March 11th followed by interment at Riverside Cemetery, Saddle Brook, NJ.
Shiva will begin after the cemetery and will continue Saturday 1pm-9pm, Sunday 2pm-9pm and Monday 7pm-9pm at 33 Elkwood Terrace, Tenafly, N 07670
(The house is located on the right on Bliss Avenue & the corner of Elkwood Terrace).
Please take a moment to sign the online guess book. You may leave a note for the family or perhaps a memory you would like to share.
A Virtual Candle may also be placed in the guestbook if you wish.
We at Gutterman and Musicant wish to express our heartfelt thanks on behalf of the mourners for your support during this difficult time.
