Doris S Pape

Doris S. Pape, nee Subin, passed away at home on February 25, 2024, in Hackensack, New Jersey, at the age of 98. She was born on February 11, 1926, in Paterson, NJ. Doris was the beloved wife of the late Irving E. Pape and a loving mother to Stuart M. Pape. She was predeceased by her sons, Howard A. Pape and Neil F. Pape.

Doris was an active member of The Whitehall building community where she lived for more than three decades, serving on its Board and numerous committees. She volunteered at the Hackensack Meridian Hospital, cuddling newborns in the pediatric unit. She loved talking with her family and friends about politics, books, and UVA basketball.

Doris will be remembered for her sharp wit and memory, countless lifelong friendships, and strong opinions on many subjects. Only in her 90s did she discover a liking for guacamole and movies on Netflix.

Doris will be dearly missed and forever remembered by her family: daughters-in-law Ginger N. Pape and Karen D. Pape; grandchildren Samuel N. Pape, Sarah E. Pape, Jeremy D. Pape, Evan A. Pape; great-grandchildren Elliot A. Pape, Owen E. Pape, Ainsley L. Pape, Frankie Pape; as well as Jeremy’s wife, Trish and Evan’s wife, Shelby; nieces Barbara Mendelsohn and Nancy Weiss and Nancy’s husband, Les, and her numerous friends.

Doris’ family is grateful for the care and assistance provided to her during her last years by Carolina, Sandra, Maria, and Kezzy-Ann.

Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm on Friday, March 1, 2024, at Gutterman and Musicant Funeral Directors, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601. A private burial will follow at Beth El Cemetery, 735 Forest Avenue, Paramus, NJ 07652.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Temple Emeth Adult Education Fund are appreciated. Doris worshipped at Temple Emeth in Teaneck, NJ.
