To all of Howard's loved ones,
I came to know Howard only recently, but during that time his warmth, kindness and great spirit were such a joy.  

He spoke so lovingly of the people in his life, and thought of himself as truly blessed.  It was wonderful to share  in his many sources of enthusiasm-- his adventures as a chef, the work at the orphanage, and all that was going on in Pleasantville. As many of you said, he was a great spirit, and I am lucky to have known him.

Dear Joy and the rest of the Chapman family, I am so sorry to hear about Howard. I met Howard from going to Puerto Vallarta with my parents.  He would always take us to the best restaurants and know the hidden gems of the area that we should give a try. He made our trips to Puerto Vallarta great since he was there every time we went. He was a great person and he always went to the orphanage and taught the young women there how to cook and it was so nice to see how happy they were and how much fun they were having with Howard. It will not be the same going there without him. My deepest sympathies to all of you, but just know he touched many people's lives for the better while he was here.

We met Howard 10 years ago in Puerto Vallarta and have looked forward to seeing him every year since. It will not be possible for us to be in that city and not feel Howard in spirit at  the many places we shared good times. Our deepest condolences to Joy, Lynn, Emily  and the rest of the family.

Howie was my best friend, and will be profoundly missed. We only got to see each other once a year, when we met in Mexico, but we spoke on the phone almost every day - sometimes multiple times a day! We were just there for each other, no matter what - sharing every facet of our lives. My deepest condolences to his family for this tragic loss. He will live on in the hearts of us all, until we meet him again. Rest in Peace, Buddy.

I knew Howie from High School and Temple Beth El. Working with him on our 35th HS reunion was a pleasure. He will be missed. May his memory be a blessing for Joy, Lynne and the rest of his family and friends.

We were deeply saddened on hearing of our friend Howard's sudden passing. We have known Howard for many years. His passing was shocking and very upsetting to us. 
We know each of you will deeply miss Howard, as will all who knew and loved him. Howard was truly special in your lives and in the lives many people for many years; mere words of sympathy will not heal the loss, the pain and the sorrow you, and all of Howard's friends and colleagues are feeling. We are so sad to hear about Howard's passing.  My husband met him years ago at a cooking class.  He was a great chef and a good friend.

Words fail me but the moment is upon us to speak. Howie in grade school was the handsome, fast running, quick talking boy all the girls had crushes on. In middle school, Howie dubbed me with the nickname that the class taunted me with for years. 

Thanks to FB and the NVRHS reunion, I was lucky enough to meet the mature adult Howie Chapman; a most loving, generous, passionate friend. Thank you for being so present in our lives.

My thoughts today are of your close friends and family. I am so utterly sorry for your loss.

Howie Chapman was our next door neighbor growing up. He always arranged all sorts of games for us kids to play on the street in our beautiful neighborhood and we would rush home and out the door to play! We connected later in life and he shared memories he had of my father and family, three who have passed and held deep roots to our upbringing and what I believe really held a spot in his heart. I will always have a spot in my heart for Howie Chapman. Xoxox

My name is Patti Buratti(Cushing),I was Howie's first girlfriend and he was my first boyfriend. We were 11 years old. It sounds young to be calling someone a boyfriend...but we were serious! We had met on swim team two years earlier. We both loved being a part of the swim culture in Closter, NJ. We spent at least 6 hours each day in the summer with our teammates and families in the pool, playing ping pong, eating our lunches in the "picnic area", basically living the dream! Howie and I went to different elementary schools but we  knew that once middle school started we would finally be in the same school and we could see each other every day. But the problem was, we were both ridiculously shy! 
So as girls did in those days, I waited for the day when I would be getting Howie's ID bracelet. When the day finally came, Howie had our friend Tor Bono give it to me, from him. I remember Tor dumping it in my hand that day, It was heavy and had a lot of sweat on it, and it was a moment. The best part of that exchange was seeing him in the background watching me!  
We never actually ever spoke face to face after that. We would pass many notes in the hallway of Village School. He said he wanted to take me to the movies to see "Bonnie and Clyde" but that was not to be.  I was so mad at my mom for not letting me go. Now I understand that 11 might be a tad young for a date!!
Needless to say things didn't last between Howie and I. We have seen one another from time to time over the years and we fill each other in on our lives and grown-up families. I will be forever grateful to have this precious story to tell. At age 11 he was my one and only and it made me feel special and somehow part of the world.
Howard was a good soul and he loved his family. His dying is somehow not right, I don't think the world was done with him yet.

Dear Joy and Lynne;

You have my sincere condolences in your loss.  Howie's locker was right by mine in high school and he was a real support in planning our 35th high school reunion.  When I was ill last year he sent me encouraging words towards my recovery.  I will truly miss his winning smile, and generous personality.  He always spoke so highly of you and his precious Emily. I love you Howie. You were one of my first friends, when I moved to Closter in second grade. I have memory flashes of chasing each other in 5th grade on the rocky fields behind Hillside School. I cherish reconnecting with you at our 2009, 35th year high school reunion, sharing insights on financial markets most of the following year. You developed into such a caring, loving soul in your later years that will sorely be missed.
