Janet Ruth Roesch was born in Brooklyn NY on Feb 26 1931and passed away on Sept 18 2025 at the age of 94 y.o. She was preceded in death by her loving and dedicated husband of 62 years Ben Roesch and her younger brother Erwin Sloan. Janet is survived by younger sister Barbara Edelson and by her adoring daughters Stephanie Bloom and Melissa Kanter as well as her son in law Eric Kanter. She has 6 grandchildren that she described as “6 queens and 1 king”- Jessica, Miriam, Nathaniel, Hannah ,Rachel and Emily. These grandchildren were her pride and joy- she loved hearing all that was going on in their lives and was always there to support their adventures and help problem solve when they were in a bind. She had a special relationship with each one and was always bragging to all her friends about all their accomplishments. She never missed an opportunity to go to a sporting event, a graduation , a school event ,and when she was unable to travel anymore she became internet savvy and followed all their life events from afar. Janet was a strong and independent woman and in her own right set an example for her daughters by encouraging them to pursue a career that allowed them to be a mom but also to maintain their independence which for a woman born in 1931 was remarkable. She reveled in the success of all her grandchildren and was always there to build up their confidence- she was unwavering in her support of them and they all knew they could count on her for advice and a sympathetic ear. Janet was an expert knitter, needlepointer and cross stitcher. So many of the sweaters she knitted and the blankets she cross stitched have been passed down to future generations. When her vision began to fail she still tried to keep up with her hand work and made beanies for the homeless as she said “ homeless people don’t expect perfection “ but she did. Janet’s other love was reading and she was a loyal patron of the Paramus Library thru her whole life. Unfortunately as her vision failed this became more difficult. Over the last 6 months of her life she was able to renew this love through the Blindness and Braille Center of the NJ Library . Janet and Ben moved to Brightview, an independent senior living community about 10 years ago. They missed the house that they built and raised their family but it was so important to her that she
maintained her independence and this allowed her to live on her own until she passed away. She was the matriarch of three generations and this was a job that she took very seriously.
Janet lived a full life focusing on what was important to herfamily . Family always came first. She was a great wife, becoming a caretaker to Ben in his later years.Janet was a great older sister worrying about her brother and sister even into adulthood she took the role as head of the family seriously. She was an amazing mom teaching her daughters to be strong and independent as well as nurturing moms. Her reward was 6 beautiful successful grand kids who adored her and filled her life with joy. They all talk about “grandma Janet” and how funny she was and how she always made time for them no matter what. Janet Roesch a life well lived may she rest in peace.
