I remember as a student his strength in knowledge. 
I remember sitting in his classroom hoping he wouldn’t call on me with questions in an auditorium full of colleagues but I aways admired his teachings and listened closely.  Forever grateful.

I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Mandel’s passing. I spent a lot of quality time with him in the salivary gland clinic at Columbia. He was a very special and sweet man who I’m proud to have called my mentor. For better or worse he’s one of the main reasons I became an Oral Surgeon. After 20 years I still draw upon and teach what I learned from him to this day. My biggest condolences to his family.
