

She was born in Baltimore, MD on December 27,1952 and the family moved to Norfolk,Virginia when she was a young girl. She was educated in the Norfolk Public School system graduating from Granby High School in 1970. While in high school she excelled in the orchestra and was known for her ability on the Contra Bass Clarinet. She spent most of her adult life as a loving mother and grandmother. In addition, she was known for her cooking and baking, as she was a partner in Thelma Fays Deli in Chesapeake, Va. She was a member of the Temple Beth Israel Sisterhood of Macon, Ga. She was a resident of Macon since September 1995.
She was predeceased by her parents Albert Lazernick and Thelma Fay (Goldman) as well as by her brothers Eugene, Steven and Lee. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, David Hammer, two stepsons Avram Jacob (Lynn) of Pottstown, PA and Michael B. Patton of Syracuse, NY. Three children Isaac (Jennifer) of Tokyo, Japan, Shayna R. of Macon, GA and Jacob N. (Kristen) of Philadelphia, PA. She also leaves behind two brothers, Brad (Judy) Lazernick of Norfolk, and Ernie (Joe) of Charleston, WV. Additionally there are five grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending but a graveside service at United Hebrew Cemetery of Staten Island, NY will be held for family and a memorial service is planned for Temple Beth Israel on Feb 26, 2023
