Nancy Halpert, 97, of Rockleigh, NJ died peacefully and in the comfort of her family on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. Born in Brooklyn and raised on Long Island, Nancy earned her Bachelor's degree from Hofstra University, followed by a Masters in Library Science from St. John’s University. She began her professional career as a Reference Librarian at the Manhasset, NY Public Library prior to joining the library faculty at Adelphi University. After moving to Connecticut, Nancy worked for the New Canaan Library from which she ultimately retired after 27 years of dedicated service.
Nancy grew up in Hempstead, NY raising her family in Massapequa and Greenvale, NY, as well as New Canaan, CT. She retired to Voorheesville, NY where she continued to live a full life by volunteering at the Voorheesville Public Library and the New York State Museum in Albany, and actively participating with the Senior Chorale at the Albany Jewish Community Center before moving to and living her final years in Rockleigh. Despite advancing age, Nancy never lost her focus on taking care of the important things, from overseeing construction of a barrier-free house two years after she retired, to proudly casting a ballot in every presidential election from 1944 through 2020. Most importantly, Nancy cared deeply about her family and many friends, and always looked forward to spending time with both. She was an avid patron of the opera and arts community, and very much enjoyed traveling the world prior to and during her retirement.
Nancy leaves behind her children, Joan Halpert (Peter Hanson), Felicia Halpert (Constantine Rodis), and Jonathan Halpert (Arlene), as well as the eleven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren who were her everlasting pride and joy. Nancy was predeceased by her daughter Susanna Levitt (Paul), her former husband Bernard, her sister Arlette, and her parents Norbert and Anna. Interment will be in Mt. Ararat Cemetery in Lindenhurst, NY. The traditional period of mourning will be observed at the Halpert Rodis household in Glen Rock, NJ on Monday and Tuesday evenings, at the Halpert-Hanson residence in Boston, MA on Wednesday evening, and at the Halpert residence in Delmar, NY on Thursday evening.
