Rick “Ricky” Marshall, of Hackensack, New Jersey, passed away on June 9, 2024, at age 80. He was born on December 18, 1943, in Hoboken, NJ—home to his musical idol Frank Sinatra—where he developed his own passion for living life to the fullest and doing it “his way.”
Rick spent the rest of his childhood in Englewood, NJ. From winning the “Most Popular” camper award to being the life of the party with his good looks and pointed sense of humor, Rick exuded a “cool” that drew others in. The one thing that was larger than his presence was his heart which was anchored in family. His commitment, reliability, and often heart-on-your-sleeve sensitivity made him irresistible and irreplaceable to all who loved him.
Rick served in the Army Reserves in 1962. He was a natural at sales and ran his own insurance agency for many years, most recently working with Strategic Insurance Partners in Nutley, NJ. He took pride in forming long-lasting relationships with his clients and colleagues. He also enjoyed mentoring his community as an official “Big Brother.”
A true music aficionado, Rick’s eclectic taste spanned all genres, with a special fondness for rock ‘n’ roll. His artistic talents were displayed in his photography and the intricate wooden model ships he meticulously crafted. As a serious collector of fountain pens, he worked closely with the New York Fountain Pen Hospital and took a special delight in watches and cars. An avid and unwavering Yankees fan, one of Rick’s biggest passions was baseball. He passed the love of game down to his eldest daughter whom he routinely took to Yankee Stadium, and to his eleven-year-old grandson—a rising star in local baseball.
Rick's educational journey included The Englewood School for Boys, Dwight-Morrow High School, and the University of Miami where he majored in business.
He is survived by his long-time girlfriend, Doreen Prokopiak and her family, as well as his children Averyl Hill and her husband Wayne Johnson, Gabrielle Marshall and her husband Daniel Federman, and his grandchildren Oliver, Frances, and Jude. Rick is also survived by his brother Jay Marshall, sister Lynne Boehm, and their respective families. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Elaine Marshall.
