Robert (Bob) Silver, of Towaco, New Jersey, died peacefully at home with his family on February 6, 2024. Bob bravely fought Acute Myeloid Leukemia for fifteen months before succumbing to the disease. Bob leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Arleen Silver, who he met on a very successful, New Year’s Singles Weekend at Mt. Snow, Vermont. Bob was the proud father of Sheryl and Joanna Silver, and son-in-law, Harry Schwirck; he was the adoring grandfather of Abebaw, Mintesinote, Solomon, and Eli. Bob was the loving brother of Arthur Silver and a beloved cousin and uncle to many.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, to Marilyn and Edward Silver, Bob had fond memories of his childhood in Long Beach, New York. Bob began his career in the jewelry business as a diamond setter in the Lower East Side Diamond District and eventually co-owned a retail and wholesale jewelry business in West Orange, New Jersey. In his retirement, Bob volunteered in two different pediatric children’s hospitals, spent time biking the many trails of New Jersey, and was an avid exercise enthusiast. He loved to listen to music, read, spend time with his children and grandchildren, and attend concerts and theater with his wife. Everyone who knew Bob – from his family, to his friends, to the nurses at the John Theurer Cancer Center where he spent much of his last 15 months – described him as the most warm, loving, and kind person they knew. He will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, 402 Park Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 83-45 Cypress Hills St, Glendale, NY 11385.
To honor Bob’s memory, please consider donating whole blood and/or platelets, if you are able, and make a donation to the Hackensack Meridian Health Nursing Fund.
