Funeral service was on Wednesday March 6th, at the Gutterman and Musicant Jewish Funeral Directors, Hackensack, NJ Interment will follow at Mt. Eden Cemetery, Valhalla, NY.
Samuel E. Shaw, 69, died on March 3, 2013, of complications from advanced Parkinson’s disease. For all who knew him, Sam created cherished memories filled with love and humor. He lived with honor and enriched the lives of those he knew and loved. Sam carried in his wallet is list that he created entitled “Goals for Life” which best exemplifies his exceptional nature. These are the goals by which he lived each day:
1) Live with honor
2) Raise decent children
3) Be proud of yourself
4) Help your fellow man
5) Enjoy sports, the outdoors, reading and music
6) Be loving towards your wife
7) Be loving towards your parents
8) Make an effort at work
9) Maximize your investment
10) Earn the respect of others
11) Allow yourself to be happy
Sam earned a PhD in Political Science in 1971 at the City University of New York and went on to become a successful and respected financial analyst at Standard & Poor’s. He leaves behind a legacy of a life filled with beloved family and life-long friends. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Carol, daughter Ruth, son Stephen, son-in-law Luis, daughter-in-law Tiffany and grandson Alexander. Sam is also survived by his cherished parents, Margorie and Leo and his beloved brother Spencer. He will be greatly missed by both the Shaw and Coopersmith families, whose lives he so deeply touched.
