Condolences to Cliff's family & close friends.
It seems extremely sad and unfair to me why such a caring, remarkable individual, had to leave us so suddenly, with so much more living left to carry out. The most memorable of Cliff's many talents, was his knack of holding numerous stop watches at once while keeping track of his different runner's times, through out all kinds of weather, and asking nothing in return.
He will never be forgotten by the Run Nova Scotia running family.

My deepest condolences to Cliff's family and friends. He was an amazing coach and friend to myself and my family for many years. Every time I saw Cliff I always felt that sense of comfort when you know you have a good friend by side.  He always made time for people and made you feel special. May his love and spirit carry on in all of us who knew him.

Sending my heartfelt sympathies to Cliffs' family and friends. He was a special person with the heart of a beautiful child, Cliff touched my life and so many others in a way no one else ever could.  He will be sadly missed but not forgotten.

Cliff was a great guy!! A knowledgeable, motivating, and caring running coach who helped me become a better runner and enjoy the sport much more than I would have without his involvement. Over the five years I spent with Cliff I came to really appreciate how he treated every runner, regardless of their skill level, the same. Unbeknownst to me at the time but now, upon reflection, his style of coaching and focus on becoming a better runner played a key role in creating a closer friendship with my running colleagues. My heartfelt sympathy is extended to his family.

I can say that Cliff was the reason I started running, and continued running...he made it fun!! He welcomed and cared for every single athlete, from the all-star to the recreational. The memories of point pleasant on a Saturday morning, or at the SMU track getting ready for provincials, are some of my fondest. Rain or shine, Cliff was there with a smile! His excitement and enthusiasm was contagious. Cliff will be missed by all who were lucky enough to meet him, be coached by him and enjoy his company. I count myself blessed, and I am sure many, many others do too. Much love and deepest condolences to Cliff's family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Cliff was much more than a running coach to me.  He was a mentor on how to treat people despite there difference.  We really got along well and I missed Cliff dearly after I moved out to BC.  We still did communicate with one another, just less frequent than before.  RIP Mr. Matthews.

Cliff was a fine, loving, gentle, compassionate, warm-hearted and genenerous man, gone far too soon, and will be sadly missed. He gave so much of his time, energy and knowledge to his runners. Many will be lost without his constant guidance and support. He was always there, in cold, wind, rain, heat, humidity,  you name it. He was at all the races, usually close enough to the finish line that his support, smiling face, directions, encouragement and praise made all the difference in the world. Rest in peace, Cliff. Know that you are well loved, and that your warm smile, gentle humor and hugs will be missed. Give 'er!

Our condolences to Cliff's family.  His commitment to his runners inspiring them with his sage advice was always peppered with his smile of encouragement.  That was Cliff.  We will miss him.

Cliff was a very special individual who touched so many lives.  He always was excited about what others were doing with their sport endeavors.  He was always smiling and laughing.  He gave so much time to all athletes not just the ones he coached.  He always had time to talk. Cliff was one in million and made the world a better place!

We would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Cliff Matthews.  He was one of our longtime Sunday Market vendors, having supported us since we began.  Cliff was well known for his interesting antiques and collectables, that he offered each week at our markets.
He will be sadly missed by our flea market family and many patrons.

My condolences to Cliff's family.. Cliff' played a big role in my running many years ago. I bought my first piece of antique jewellery from him.. The last few years  we met up at the sportsplex.. catching up on life , running & old friends. Will miss him..Cliff was an amazing person, who gave so much of himself to others.

I was at the Canada Games Centre on Tuesday night and I was sure I heard Cliff yelling up on the track.  That's when I realized how much quieter track races will be "now" - which was a word we always used to here him use.

My condolences to Cliff's family -- both the Matthews family and all the running family.  Cliff was such a kind, gentle, giving soul.  Heaven will have the best running team.  He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.

Cliff was full of life and laughter. I have so many happy memories of being with my friend either out picking antiques or going to the movies. I will always hold a special place my heart for my friend.

I was greatly saddened to hear of Cliff's passing. He was an amazing coach, giving his time and dedication to runners of every ability, from the novice to the elite level. He respected all of his runners, and they had great respect for him. Our running community has lost a wonderful friend.
