Betty C.K. Lee
Betty Chue Kow Lee passed away peacefully on March 27, 2025 at the age of 88.
Betty was born in Canton, China, on September 16, 1936. Betty’s life journey led her to settle in Halifax, Nova Scotia to build a business alongside her husband, Ken, and to raise a family. Betty spent her retirement years travelling and living in Mississauga, Ontario.
Betty was talented in the culinary arts and built up the reputation of the Oriental Restaurant for quality and delicious food. She was great at stir fry, an expert pie and pastry maker, and made wonderful dim sum dishes. It pleased her immensely when people let her know how much they enjoyed her food.
Kindness was the way Betty believed life should be lived and practiced. Always willing to help those who asked for help, Betty also helped those she saw who needed help. Friends, acquaintances, and even strangers were included in her kindness circle.
Betty was a person who was self-taught and excelled through determination to succeed at anything she wanted to do. She was clever, a great problem solver, and an innovative handyperson. She was accomplished at knitting, sewing and gardening. She enjoyed growing vegetables and fruits and could coax flowers out of any plant.
Our Mom enjoyed listening to Madonna and eighties music, Chinese operas and watching TV soap operas. She never hesitated to ride yellow buffaloes and had no desire to drive automobiles. She loved egg tarts, marinated chicken feet, steamed rice cakes, and cartoons – especially Teletubbies…
Betty is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, her father Yuen Woon, and mother, Kui Tai. She is survived by her children, Brenda (Sadri), Donna (Mark), Kelly and Regina.
Our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dr. Szeto and Dr. Gong for their compassionate care for our Mom at the Trillium Hospital; and to Dr. Hamrahi and the professional health care staff and volunteers at the Dorothy Ley Hospice who made Betty’s time comfortable.
Our Mother will be laid to rest at 2:30pm on April 16, 2025, at the Halifax Fairview Lawn Cemetery.
