Catherine “Cathy” Lynn Dechamp was born on April 12, 1957, to her loving parents, Agatha and James MacDonald, in Halifax, NS. She passed away suddenly at home, surrounded by love, in the presence of her devoted husband of 36 years, on September 14, 2025.
Cathy worked for many years as a cashier at Sobeys, where she had a gift for making her customers laugh and leaving them with a smile. After retiring, she was able to enjoy some incredible adventures. Cathy had a beautiful spirit, and every room was made brighter by her kind, creative, and empathetic presence. If you were celebrating, she was your loudest cheerleader. If you were sad, scared, or unsure, she always knew just what to say.
She will be deeply missed by her husband, Lawrence Dechamp; her daughter, Kaleigh Van Dine, and son-in-law, Michael Van Dine; her best friend, Judy Feltus; her Tuesday night dart league; and her many friends, staff, and customers from Sobeys Wyse Road. Cathy has been laid to rest privately with her parents and her younger brother, Peter MacDonald at Heavens Gate Cemetery in Sackville, NS.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA in Cathy’s memory. She had a lifelong fondness for animals, especially her daughter’s Jack Russell Terrier, Rufus.
You will be thought of daily, and we will carry your spirit in everything we do.
