Laverty, Edward Joseph-78, of Halifax, passed away peacefully December 30, 2011 at home. Born in Halifax he was a son of the late Edward and Ella (Hebb) Laverty. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Edward worked as a waiter/bartender for 18 years at the Lord Nelson Beverage Room. After losing his vision he worked for the Caterplan (CNIB). He then ventured on his own establishing his canteen business at the Red Cross Building on Rainy Drive. Edward was a man of extreme generosity, who would gladly in an instant do without to help those in need. He was also an avid crib player and had an awesome sense of humour. He is survived by his wife Ann-Marie (Tomkins); daughter Barbara (Jim) Bailey; three grandsons and one great-granddaughter. Edward was predeceased by two brothers and one sister. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday January 4th, 2012 at 11am in Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
