Edythe passed away at Northwood Manor in Halifax on May 19, 2017. She is survived by her daughter Margaret of Halifax and two sons, John (Sharon) of Halifax and James (Laura) in Prince George, BC. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Mackenzie and Casey, and one grandson Braeden. Mom loved being a grandmother. She is also survived by a sister, Margaret Hall of Halifax. Edythe was predeceased by her husband Myles Joseph Muise and very recently her son, David Muise.
Edythe was the youngest of 13 children and grew up in Cape Breton. Being one of the first of her family to move to Halifax she often welcomed relatives from the island. There was always room for one more in our tiny house, with a pot of tea always on the stove to welcome her loyal band of friends, who were regular visitors.
Edie retired from teaching after 44 years of service with the Halifax School Board. After graduating from the Nova Scotia Normal College in Truro, she upgraded her license and skills with several of years of additional training. Edie loved working with children. Long after she retired, it wasn’t unusual for a small child in the neighbourhood to cry out “Hi, Edie!”
Mom was blessed with the gift of music. She could play any tune on the piano and harmonica, and often accompanied her classes at school concerts. Mom loved her piano, and always enjoyed playing for her family or just for herself.
As a young widow, mom was always busy supporting her sons, often attending several hockey, baseball and lacrosse games each week. One of her favourite pastimes was shopping; she especially loved coats, hats and sneakers. She was a member of Saint Agnes Church for over 55 years. After Mass, you could always find her with her friends having a coffee and a sweet, and checking out her luck with her lotto tickets.
A big “Thank you!” goes out to the staff on 1 Central at Northwood Halifax, who cared for our mother with compassion.
Mom lived a happy and long life, and will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Saint Agnes Church or the Northwood Foundation.
