

Peacefully at home on Monday, December 26, 2016, with family beside him, at the age of 94. Gerry was born in Halifax on April 15, 1922, to Charles and Ella (Fader) Flinn. He lived his whole life in Halifax, attending St. Pat’s Boy’s School and then St. Pat’s High where he won the Birks Gold Watch for highest average. He took a commercial course and joined Canada Customs as a messenger, working his way up to Head of Appraisals by the time of his retirement after 46 years. As a youngster, he engaged in many fun things around Halifax such as swimming at Point Pleasant Park and hanging around the old airport on Chebucto Road. As an adult he was an avid bowler, was active in the credit union and St. Stephen’s Parish, and more recently enjoyed the sights of Halifax on drives with his sons-in-law, Bob and Joe.

He was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Ella (Fader) Flinn, his first wife, Rosemary (Newman) Flinn; his second wife, Muriel (Stone) Flinn; his brother Pat Flinn, his sister Joan Perry; his granddaughter, Kathleen Haggerty.
Visitation will be at Cruikshanks Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax, Friday, December 30, 2016, from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. Funeral will be held on Saturday, December 31st at 11:00 am at Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata Parish (formerly Saint Stephen’s), 6032 Normandy Drive at Robie Street, Halifax, with celebrant Father Andrew Rembarczyk. Reception will follow in the church hall, with burial afterward in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
