The family of Gregory Adams Corbett is saddened to announce his death, which occurred on January 30th at his home at Parkland on the Lakes.
Greg was born in Halifax, a son of the late Jack and Evelyn (Adams) Corbett. He was pre-deceased by his brother John in 2023. A lifelong resident of Halifax, he grew up in the South End, graduating from Queen Elizabeth High School in 1950.
Not long after, he joined the Royal Bank and was transferred to Summerside P.E.I. It is there he met a young nurse, his future wife Louise. Greg dubbed 1954 his “big year”. In the spring he joined Trans Canada Airlines, in the fall he signed up with the Princess Louise Fusiliers (PLFus) and that November he and Louise were married.
Greg retired in 1975 as Lieutenant Colonel, and former Commanding Officer of the PLFus. In 1991 he retired from Air Canada as Product and Marketing Manager at the Regional Headquarters in Halifax, after 37 years of service.
Following retirement, Greg and Louise travelled extensively, enjoying backpacking and hiking with friends in New Zealand, Australia, Nepal, Austria, England and Scotland. They also spent five wonderful winters in the community of Ahwatukee, Arizona.
Next to his beloved family, one of Greg’s greatest joys was the work he and Louise undertook in the restoration of the 6th generation Craig family homestead (Craigmore) in Middleton PEI. It was a true labour of love. For over 48 years, it became a gathering place for family and friends from all over the world.
Greg was the epitome of calm and steadiness, patience and kindness. He had a dry sense of wit and humour. He was well respected by his colleagues and friends, much loved by his family.
He leaves behind his wife Louise (Craig) Corbett, with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage this past November; his sons, Brian (Kelly) and Craig (Mary Ann); grandchildren, Jessica (Scott), Colin (Joan), Barbara, Stewart, and Julia (Ben); great-grandchildren, Sophie, James, Violet, Andrew, Charlotte, Claire, and a 7th expected in just 3 weeks.
Greg led a long and fulfilling life close to family, creating memories that all of us will forever cherish.
The family wishes to sincerely thank Greg’s palliative care team for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided.
A family memorial will take place this summer on Prince Edward Island.
