

HOWELL (Murphy), Helen Bertha (nee Collins) – 90, of Halifax died peacefully October 26, 2012, in Drummond Hall. Mom was born April 27, 1922, in Halifax to the late Leonard and Marie Collins. Helen was devoted to her family throughout her life. She was the epitome of unconditional love – slow to judge and quick to offer a listening ear. Known for her exceptional cooking and knitting skills, she readily welcomed all to her home on Edinburgh St. where she lived for 62 years and celebrated her 90th Birthday.
She was a life-long member of UCW (Rose Group) at Edgewood Oxford Street United Church; she also volunteered for many years at the IWK.
Survived by sister Marie Bond, Halifax; children, David (Anne) Murphy, Dartmouth, Glenn (Faye) Murphy, Dartmouth; Faye (John) Morley, Halifax; Dale (Roger) Mott, Rothesay, NB; 10 grandchildren – Anne, Kevin, Janet, Stacey, Neil, Steven, Krista, Justin, Christopher, and Brandon. Also surviving are 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her first husband, Fred J. Murphy and her second husband, Ken Howell; brothers, Russ, Len, Carl, and Robert.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2-5 p.m. in Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street. Funeral service will be held on Monday 11 am in the Edgewood Oxford Street United Church. Rev. David Hann officiating. Interment to follow at Fairview Cemetery.
