

Burke, Hildred (Tillie), Theresa - Tillie passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2010. She was born on December 7, 1917 (one day after the Halifax Explosion), a daughter of the late John David and Alice May (Norris) Davis. She is survived by eight children, Robert (Sigrid), Kenneth (Jenny), Thomas (Faye), John James Jr., Dianne, Sharon (Barrie), James and Patrick; seven grandchildren Jason (Sheril), Sean, Ashley, Randy (Marla), Lori (Paul), Alexander, Jonathan; four great grandchildren, Kelly, Alexandra, Jordan and Kaydence. She was predeceased by step-father, John Pettipas; and her husband, John "Jack" James Burke Sr.; infant son, Joseph and infant daughter, Mary; brother, Harold and sister, Mary.
Tillie devoted her life to her family and gave selflessly and unconditionally. Her warm smile and sense of fun will be greatly missed. She enjoyed many friendships and will be remembered most as a kind, generous, spiritual, and unassuming person who accepted life's challenges without complaint and received much enjoyment from the simplest of pleasures.
Tillie was a woman of strong faith and was very active in her church community. She was a founding member of the Sodality of Our Lady, (Christians Life Community) at Canadian Martyrs Parish in Halifax. She was also a devout member of the Catholic Women's League (CWL) for over fifty years and was past president at Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Canadian Martyrs parishes
The family would like to offer a sincere thank you to the members of her parish, whose kindness and support were greatly appreciated over the years, as well as the recent support extended to the family. We would also like to thank Dr. C. Graham, Dr. Mann and Roz of the Cardiac Clinic and all the caregivers that provided exceptional care for Mom over the last few years. Visitation will be held on Tuesday August 3rd, in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive from 7-9pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Benedict's Parish, corner of Radcliffe and Dunbrack St., on Wednesday August 4th at 10:00am. Family burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
