

Age 88, of Halifax, died suddenly Sunday, March 9, 2014, at home after her return from a two week vacation to her beloved Bermuda. Born December 11, 1925, in Moncton, N.B., she was a daughter of the late Harry F. Wilmot and May (Dempster). Isabella grew up in Lower Coverdale, N.B. and attended Moncton High School. An excellent student, she was awarded scholarships to attend Dalhousie University where she later graduated with both Bachelor and Master degrees in Science. Upon graduation she was employed by the Fisheries Research Board where she met her future husband, Wesley Brownlee. Upon marrying Wes in 1948 they resided on South Park Street in Halifax and later moved to the then new subdivision of Westmount. Over her many years in Westmount, she developed many lifelong friendships with those who shared her interests in bridge, music, theatre, gardening, and travel. Isabella was predeceased by her parents; her brother, John and finally by Wes in 2002, but will tenderly be remembered by her son, James “Jim” and daughter-in-law, Donna (Burgess), Whitby, Ont. Surviving family includes grandsons, Christian Klender (Erin), Huntersville, N.C.; Corey Klender (Lesle), Oshawa, Ont., and granddaughter, Jamie Brownlee, Whitby, Ont. A special joy to Isabella were her great-granddaughters, Rylann and Aubrey, Huntersville, N.C.; Brynn and Elise, Oshawa, Ont. Isabella was a great lady who lived a very full but modest life, generous in spirit and deed, whose enduring pleasures where her friends and family. The family would like to offer special thanks to Dennis Fris who acted as companion, caregiver, and listener to both Wes and Isabella in their later years. Visitation 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, March 15 in Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Graveside funeral service will be held for family members following the visitation. Family flowers only. To commemorate her love of music a memorial donation may be made to Women for Music, c/o Symphony Nova Scotia.
