It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, Isabelle Mary (Mombourquette) Wagerman on December 15, 2017 at Sagewood Continuing Care Community, Lower Sackville, surrounded by her loving family. Born in L’Ardoise, Cape Breton in 1932 she was the daughter of the late Murdock and Mary Mombourquette.
Mom’s formative years were spent honing her skills as a great cook and baker which many enjoyed during holidays and drop in visits. A great seamstress, she could make any costume or outfit and was also talented in knitting and crocheting. She had a love of old time country music and the fiddle. She could always be found step dancing to jigs and reels and had a lovely singing voice as well. Proud of her French Acadian heritage she was also fully bilingual and even spoke some Gaelic. She would eventually fall in love and marry her “Scotsman” husband John "Jock". Eventually they would settle in Halifax and start a family where she “held down the fort” during Jock’s 25 year naval career and beyond.
She was thrilled when, in 1978, they purchased a vacation home in Gulfport, Fla. where she loved walking the beach collecting shells and tending to the many beautiful flowers in her garden. Mom loved her shopping trips to Bangor and was the most prolific bargain hunter known to man.
Her pride and joy were her children and especially her grandchildren which she adored.
Mom is survived by her daughter, Janine MacCuspic (Maynard); son, Keenan (Kim); grandchildren, Dylan (Leah), and Bria; sister, Linda; brothers, Stanley (Yvonne), Allan (Mary Anne); sister-in-law, May; many nieces and nephews. Pre-deceased by husband, John; children, Terry, Maxine, Lynn, Kirk, Charlene; parents Murdoch and Mary; brother Clifford; brothers in-laws, Patrick, Harry; sister in-law, Gracie.
We would like to thank all the caretakers, nurses, and doctors, especially everyone at Sagewood Continuing Care. Your compassion, care, and kindness shown to mom and the entire family will never be forgotten. You truly are angels here on earth.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 21 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Memorial service will take place on Friday, December 22 at 11:00 am in Saint Mother Teresa of Kolkata Parish, 6032 Normandy Drive, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of N.S.
