
Gammon, James Harry, 87, Halifax. It is with heavy hearts the family announce the passing of our dad, brother, uncle and grandpa on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011 in the veterans Memorial Building, Halifax. Born in Pictou, he was the eldest son of the Late Duncan and Mary (Bouchie) Gammon. At an early age he joined the Canadian Army (Special Force) and served in Italy, France and later Korea. He was extremely proud to have served his country and was decorated with stars: Italy Star, France and Germany Star, Defence Medal, Cdn. Volunteer Service Medal and War Medal. After his return from Korea, he worked for Dept. of Veteran’s Affairs Camphill Hospital Stores for 27 yrs, retiring in 1970. He was a member in good standing of the Royal Canadian legion for 64 yrs., most recently Calis Legion Branch 162, Sackville, NS.
He leaves to mourn his passing: daughters Sharon Blaney Halifax, Barbara Gammon, Montreal;sisters Ida Simpson, Winnipeg, Ruth Carroll, Halifax, Bessie Ingram, Diane Graves, both of Sackville, and a brother Ronald, Sackville, eighteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Besides his parents he was pre-deceased by his first wife Margaret (Campbell) and second wife Mary Jane (Cleversay). Brother Jack and his youngest daughter Lynn Marie Gammon (2010). Cremation arrangements under direction of Cruikshanks Funeral Home. Interment at a later date. The family would like to thank the entire staff of 5West VMB for their kind and compassionate care over the years. You truly become family.
