Joan Teresa Hansen
19 abril , 1933 – 2 noviembre , 2019
It is with great love and sadness that we announce the passing of Joan Teresa (Clarke) Hansen on November 2, 2019, at the age of 86, after a courageous battle with cardiac disease.
Joan was born in Halifax to the late Harold and Mae (Laba) Clarke. She is survived by her siblings: Harold, Donald and Anne. She grew up attending College Street School and Saint Patrick's High School, and was a parishioner at St. Mary's Basilica and Canadian Martyrs Church. She was a longtime member of Roman Catholic women's organizations the Saint Anne's Sodality and the Children of Mary, and a pilgrim at Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupre many times with her family.
Joan dedicated her life to her family, and was predeceased by her beloved husband of almost 65 years, Edward Hansen Sr.; she is survived by their three children Edward, Michael, and Joanne, their seven grandchildren Sarah, Severine, Isaac, Jeremy, Allison, Jill and Scott, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Joan enjoyed family travel, visiting Detroit, Florida and San Francisco, and made many trips to Bangor with her daughter, Joanne. She was a proud Lebanese-Canadian and family traditions were central to her life. She was a fierce defender of her family, a self-taught intellectual, and passionately debated historical and political issues, always to the edification of her loving children and grandchildren. She has left us a legacy and a love of literature, laughter, and the search for truth.
Joan's family meant everything to her, and she meant everything to us. She will be dearly missed.

Joan came to become a wonderful client of mine. We had many lovely talks about family, love, and everything going on in the news. She always made sure she looked her best and never liked missing her hair appointments. I remember one snow stormy day she was booked for her hair appointment and I thought since everyone canceled, sure enough she would too but Ed made sure she was here to get her hair done and feel great. We laughed about it on her way home as she tretched up her steps in snow to her knees. She truly was a strong woman who could make anything happen. I will miss her fun spirit. May she rest in peace.
