Joanne Terry (Parker) Daughney

Terry was born on September 1st, 1940 and died on March 6th 2022, both in Halifax, NS. She was the daughter of Frederick Thomas Parker and Signa Mumford. As a three year old she was saved by penicillin-the first in NS to benefit from the “wonder drug”. She graduated from Queen Elizabeth High School, from Mount Allison University with a BSc and from Dalhousie University with a BEd. Terry was a teacher. She taught school in Dartmouth, NS, in Clifton Hampden and Berinsfield, England and in Princeton, NJ. Although she taught high school, junior high, elementary and pre-school, it was the very young which brought her the most enjoyment.

She loved dance-ballet and ballroom, but the latter was stifled by an untrained partner. She did get him to go square dancing. Terry was a swimmer at the Master level. She was a curler, with a lovely slide, and she found good friends at the Chester club. Terry was artistic. She painted, did glasswork and especially produced beautiful quilts. Through quilting activities, she made many lifelong friends from across the country.

Terry married Charles Daughney and she raised two fine young men. She is survived by her husband, Charles, and by her sons Stephen (Heidi) in Oakville, ON and Christopher (Lesley) in Wellington, NZ. She is survived by grandson, Jordan Lambis, and his mother Maroula, as well as grandchildren Caelyn, Owen and Ciara. Terry is survived by sisters Nancy Waddell, in Vancouver, BC, and Christine (Richard) Butler in Halifax, NS. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Edward (Doris) Daughney in Paris, France, sister-in-law Kate Kinnaird in Halifax, NS and by many fine nieces and nephews.

Terry was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2003. Quilting and writing were skills soon lost, but she retained a very positive, loving attitude to the end of her life.
