John Robert Mahen

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Robert Mahen on the early morning of April 8, 2023. He married his second wife, Maureen McCorry Mahen, in June 2019 and they shared many happy times, social gatherings, and trips together. He is survived by his daughter, Shelley, and they enjoyed many travels, adventures, and laughs together.

John was born on February 7, 1932 in Dartmouth, NS; he was known by many of his friends and family as Bud or Buddy, and he was proud about being from Dartmouth and always talked about his hometown. He is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Jeanne (Hart), and daughters, Lisa and Lori.

John was a partner in his own insurance company and he met many people during his years as an insurance broker. Due to his two daughter's illness, he was an active member in the Muscular Dystrophy Association and a proud supporter of the scholarship to SMU in Lori's name. He joined the Bedford Legion and helped sell poppies for a number of years. His love of people always had him talking to anyone. He loved playing cards, (crib was his favourite), dancing, parties, and sharing stories.

Funeral services, with a Legion service included, will be held at Cruikshank's Halifax Funeral home on Windsor Street on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at 2pm. Visitation will be at the same location and day from 12-2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethany United Church, or a charity of your choice.
