In her 94th year, passed away on March 24, 2015, in her apartment at The Berkeley, Green St. in Halifax, with family by her side. Joyce who grew to be a warm, compassionate, strong and loving woman, was born in Marriott's Cove May 6, 1921, to parents Alalia and Gordon Hiltz. From her South Shore roots, life and her much loved husband, Jack, brought her to Halifax and their new home on Ashburn Avenue, where she enjoyed over 60 years, surrounded by neighbours who she loved and adored her. She was a full time devoted mother to her children; Dale, Judi and Richard. She committed her life to creating strong family traditions and providing support to her children and her adored grandchildren. Joyce had a lively social life with her couple friends, girlfriends and the Seniors Community. She is known for her ability to master any skill she put her hand to, knitting, sewing, crafts, but her crowning art, was her mastery of pastry and sweets. Friday was always baking day at the Woodroffe home and the results were delicious. Everyone who knew Joyce will remember her smile and her blue eyes. Her immediate and open acceptance of everyone, including strangers, was matched only by her wonderful sense of humour. Joyce was a giver and a pleaser. She wanted everyone to be happy and joyful. True to her Taurus sign, Joyce was kind, gentle and true, with a fearless side that would refuse to quit. She is survived by her children: Dale (Mary Ann) Woodroffe of Calgary, Judi (Tom) Vincent of Halifax and Richard (Rosa) Woodroffe of Arizona. Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren; Chris (Kim) Woodroffe, Ethan and Stella; Neil (Aleks) Woodroffe, Nicolle (Ryan Finnamore), Adella and Lucas; Ben Vincent (Antoinette) Lilah and Emilia; Ryan and Brad Woodroffe, Olivia and Clara Thiem.
