

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth (Ken) Gordon Kilvert, who died peacefully at home on Jan 17th, 2025, aged 82 years.
Ken was born and raised on the Halifax Peninsula, the youngest son of the late Francis Kilvert and Winnifred (Camp) Kilvert. Ken was predeceased by his parents, son Michael, his good friend and brother Bob, and his beloved greyhound Natasha. He is survived by his spouse Crystal (Nicholas), daughter Dawn (Rob), Dartmouth, Sister-in-Law Catherine (O’Connor) Kilvert, Halifax, Brother-In-Law Wayne (Allyson) Nicholas, Calgary, 3 step grandchildren, and 4 nieces and 1 nephew.
Ken attended Oxford School and St Patrick’s High, which nurtured his curious, questioning spirit. He received a BA from Saint Mary’s University, and B Ed from Dalhousie University, also a diploma in Journalism from Kings College and a Fine Arts diploma from the Nova Scotia Art College.
Ken began his teaching journey educating grade 9’s at Bedford Junior High, then served as Principal at various schools in the Lunenburg and Halifax Counties. Ken was in the school system for over 30 years, inspiring young hearts and minds, encouraging them to dream big, and always strive to reach their full potential. Ken enjoyed organizing school activities, including cultural trips to Quebec, charity drives, school dances, and team sports. In the 1960’s, the dances he organized for teens at a local Bedford church hall were legendary, being a who’s who of the local music scene at the time.
Never a person to keep still, in his retirement years, he took on security work with Eagle Security, eventually becoming a Provincial Civil Constable, and running his own bailiff business, alongside his wife Crystal.
Ken lived his life with a strong sense of purpose, devotion to family and community, and was a man of enduring principles. He always will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, and his interesting words of wisdom. Happy trails to you Ken!
Cremation has taken place, with Celebration of Life to follow at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax on Saturday March 15th,2025 1PM-4PM.
Memorial donations can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Society, Canada Diabetes Association, Cancer Society, or charity of choice.
