

Young (nee Downey), Lou May – 77, born in North Preston, NS on February 12th, 1936 to the late Thomas Downey and the late Pearl (Grant – Downey) Sparks passed away at the Halifax Infirmary on November 10th, 2013. She retired after working at MT&T for several years and was a member of Cherry Brook United Baptist Church.Lou May is survived by daughters Gail Clayton, Brantford, ON; Cynthia Young, at home; sons Gerald and George Young, Halifax and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Phyllis Colley, East Preston; Margaret Bedford, Brantford, ON; Genevieve Halcrow and Thelma Phillips, Dartmouth; brothers, Deacon William Downey, Halifax; Foster Sparks, Langdon, AB; Carl Sparks and Deacon Ralph Sparks, Cherry Brook. She was predeceased by her husband Gerald Young; step-father Deacon James Arthur Sparks; sisters Pearl, Laura, Gracie, Delores, Ivory, Moretta, Marceline, Josephine, Beatrice and Hilda; brothers James, Raymond, Lawrence Albert and Douglas; and one grandchild. Visitation will be held on November 17th, 2013 from 6 – 8pm at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax, NS. Funeral 1pm November 18th, 2013 at Cherry Brook United Baptist Church, Rev. Wayne Desmond officiating.
