

Age 84 of Halifax, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sat. Aug 26th at the QEII in Halifax.
Margaret was the daughter of the late Dr. George Hugh Henderson and Ruth Wallace (Ross) Henderson.
Margaret grew up in Halifax where she attended the Halifax Ladies College and Queen Elizabeth High School. Following a B.A. at Dalhousie University, she studied Business and worked at CBC in Halifax as well as a company in Montreal. After a brief time working as a secretary in Moscow, Margaret fostered in interest in studies of the Russian language. In 1963 Margaret married LtCdm Fred Crickard of Vancouver and in 1968 they had a daughter, Nancy. The family lived in Halifax, Kingston, Victoria, and Ottawa, before Fred’s retirement from the Navy in 1985, as Deputy Commander of Maritime Command.
Margaret had a lifelong interest in ballet and was grateful for the training she received with Jury and Irene Gotshalks at the Gotshalks Halifax Ballet. She volunteered with APSEA, where she read with the blind, and guided residents on shopping tours. She treasured friendships she developed there. She also volunteered with the IWK Kermesse and Women For Music, in Halifax.
Margaret is survived by her daughter Nancy, her granddaughters Anya and Natasha, son-in-law David, nephews Scott and John Aikman, and niece Ann Aikman (Quimby). Along with her parents, she was pre deceased by her loving and devoted husband Rear-Admiral Fred Crickard and her sister Dr. Nancy Henderson as well as sister-in-law Helen (Crickard) Aikman and nephew David Aikman.
Special thanks to the staff at the Berkeley Halifax (Green St) where Margaret lived for the past 4 years, and to Margaret’s friend and companion Sharon. Grateful thanks to Dr. Frank Lo, to Dr. Keri-Leigh Cassidy, and to the staff at the QEII for their care and compassion. Heartfelt thanks to our friends for their love and support.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Cruikshank's Halifax. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at Cruikshanks Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. Halifax, on Wed. Aug 30th at 11am. Donations if desired, may be made to The Salvation Army of Halifax, to Operation Eyesight of Calgary, or to a charity of your choice.
