Marion Clementine (Williams) Duda – Marion was born in 1929, the daughter of Harry and Mary (Linklater) Williams. She grew up in Goderich, Ontario along with sisters Doris and Kathleen, and brothers Donald, Glen, Gordon, Kenneth and Lawrence. After graduating from Goderich Collegiate, she moved to Toronto where she met and married husband Michael Duda, and started her family with children Michael, Simone and Gregory. In the late 60’s the family moved to Prince Edward Island and then settled in the Halifax area in 1972. In addition to raising her family, Marion was active in the community volunteering with a variety of charities, school and recreation associations as well as a work career that included the federal government and the family business. One of her passions was politics and she often worked with Elections Canada at election time or helped get out the vote for her life long political party. After living in Charlottetown and London, Ontario in the 80’s, she returned to Halifax in 1987. She continued to volunteer and studied art, history and political science at Saint Mary’s University. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren. She spent countless hours taking them around Halifax to the Public Gardens, the Museum of Natural History, the city library and of course Dairy Queen. Marion passed away peacefully Sunday, June 9. She is survived by sons Gregory (Bernadette) and Michael (Leslie Jones), son-in-law David Larder, grandchildren Rebecca, Caroline, Erin, Christopher (Katherine Warren) and Samantha, and great-grandchildren William and Willoughby. A private family graveside service will be held at St. John’s Cemetery. Donations may be made to UNICEF Canada.
