

Shannon, Marion Mary-89, passed away peacefully at the Palliative Care Unit of the VG Site QEII on March 19, 2012 following a lengthy illness. Born in Halifax she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Ethel (Giles) Dauphinee. Marion attended Oxford Street School and was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Girls High School. In later life, she also attended St. Mary’s University. She was employed as a bookkeeper for a number of companies in Halifax. Marion loved to sing, and was a member of a number of Choral groups, including the Bluenose Belles and the St. Stephen’s Church Choir. She was a long time, active member of St. Stephen’s Parish, where she was involved as a cantor, lector and Eucharistic Minister. She was always delighted to sing the “Exultet” at Easter Vigil, which she did for several years. Marion was a wonderful person to all who knew her, and took great interest in acquiring knowledge throughout her life. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Marion is survived by her children, Colleen Bell, Elizabeth Coleman, Margaret Butler and Monica MacDonald all of Vancouver, BC, Frank Shannon, of Riverview, NB and Patrick Shannon, of Kelowna, BC; sister Helen McDonald, of Halifax; 20 grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen; son, Stephen Jr; brothers, Alan, Aubrey, Avery, Harold and Louis. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. Visitation will be held on Friday March 23, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated 1pm Saturday March 24 at Blessed Mother Teresa Parish (formerly St. Stephen’s Parish), Father Donald Boudreau officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of choice.
