

CASEY (O'Laughlin), Muriel Irene "Tootie" - 84, of Halifax, passed away on December 4, 2011, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born April 29, 1927, in Halifax, she was the daughter of John Patrick O'Laughlin and Frances Maude (Goudreault) O'Laughlin. She was a long-time resident of Creighton St. before moving to her apartment on Windsor Street. She was a life-long member of St. Patrick's Church where she volunteered with the Children's Breakfast Program. She worked at the Metropolitan Store on Gottingen St. for many, many years, where she was known as "Casey" by her fellow employees. She was an avid bingo player. She was a frequent patron of the 'Steak And Stein' restaurant on Young St. where she was known as "Mama Muriel". She is survived by her children, Michael (Diane) Casey, Riverview, NB; David Casey, Westlock, AB; Annetta Casey and Cathy (Rob) Kiteley, both of Timberlea. Grandchildren, Tim and Amy Casey, BC and Mariah and Justin Casey, Riverview, NB; Steven and Megan Casey, Calgary, AB; Shawn, Chris, Jeff and Jacqueline Casey and Liam, all of the HRM; and, Heather and Colleen Zinn and Suzanne (Jayme) Salsman, all of the HRM. Great-grandchildren, Maya, Peyton, Benjamin and Maddox. Also, survived by her sister-in-law, Laura (Casey) Hartlin and son-in-law, Frank Zinn. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James Patrick Casey (1992); her daughter, Patricia Anne Zinn (2007); her brothers, John O'Laughlin and Thomas O'Laughlin; and great-grandson, Hayden Casey. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 7 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm in Cruickshank's Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, December 8th at 10am in St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church, Halifax, with Father Jean-Marc Laporte, SJ officiating; followed by a reception in the church hall. Burial to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Muriel's name to the St. Patrick's Restoration Society, Children's Breakfast Program c/o Sister Cecelia MacNeil or the charity of your choice.
