Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of William “Bill” Hayes and Marjorie (LaPierre) Hayes. Nancy was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother, and grandmother whose life was centered on faith and family. She is survived by her daughters, Angie (Wayne) and Heidi Cleary; her cherished grandchildren, Jasmine, Aurélia, Braden, Noah, and Max; her sisters, Heather and Betty; her brother, Larry; along with nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles “Chuck,” and her sister, Paula.
Nancy dedicated much of her career to the federal public service, working her way up the administrative ladder. She also taught stenography at the Halifax Vocational School, where she was highly regarded by staff and students alike. She said that her time as a teacher was the most rewarding of her working life. She found joy in music, often playing the piano and guitar. Her love of tennis and the Toronto Blue Jays provided endless hours of conversation and laughter—especially during visits with her grandson Noah, when they would discuss the highs and lows of their favourite team.
Above all, Nancy’s deepest joy came from her five grandchildren, whom she loved dearly and held close in her thoughts every day.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the QEII Health Sciences Centre, especially those in the Emergency Ward, for their compassionate care, and to the Northwood Home Care staff for their ongoing support.
A Memorial Service will be held at Saint Ignatius, 1288 Bedford Hwy, Bedford, NS B4A 1C8 at 10:00AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to Osteoporosis Canada. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting cruikshankhalifaxfuneralhome.com.
