I met Neil through the Atlantic Fringe Fest, and my life is richer for having known him. It always made my day to trade a few insults with him! The Fringe Fest will never be the same. I'll miss ya, big guy.

I have thought of Neil so many times since I heard of his passing. Little sayings that he had have helped me over the years that I have known him.I will miss seeing him on Friday nights.
I have one particular memory of Neil that I would like to share. As you know, he was very close to his mother. He would often tell me about her teaching and her wise sayings. After she died, he wanted to have something special for the family in her memory. He was so proud of showing me the Christmas ornament that he had ordered for the family. It contained her picture. I'm sure you will also remember Neil, now, when you hang those ornanments.
It was so special to meet you at the wake and also to see how many, many lives Neil had touched at the funeral service.
Hopefully happy memories of Neil will help you through this sad time.

I worked with Neil many years ago at Robert Simpsons Limited in the Advertising Dept. He was one of the most animated people I have known, and though unfortunately we didn't keep in touch, I often thought about him. Neil could always make you laugh, whether you wanted to or not! He was a friend, and I'm sorry his time was so short. My condolences to his family and friends.

Neil you have affected such an incredible litany of people so positively, it's unbelievable. We are going to miss you. I wouldn't be me if it were not for you, and I know so many people who think the same of you. You are alive in our souls and speaking in our thoughts like Yoda in Star Wars. ;^) Thanks for being a great friend and being such a great example to myself and others. You epitomize what a giver is. Life does not seem just or fair that death may come to people, especially someone like you...but my hope is that the afterworld enjoys your great company now, as you have filled this world with so much of it already... It was a total surprise to hear of Neil's sudden passing.  He was taken way too soon as his work with others in recovery was his passion.  My memories of our early recovery together will remain in my heart and I will pass these on for years to come.  The Saturday night dances to Tom Cochrane's "Life is a Highway" is just one of those memories.  For those who "grew in recovery" with Neil, take care and stay close to each other.  He would want that.  To his family, I am so sorry for your loss.  He was a "giant" of a man, a beautiful soul, and many people loved him.

I am so grateful to have known Neil.  His offbeat sense of humour often drove me to distraction, but more often it helped me take myself less seriously.  Neil's compassion and genuine concern for others deeply moved me and he was a great support and inspiration to me for years.  Life will never be the same - for having known him or losing him.  Love and prayers to all who are mourning his loss.

Over the past few years I had the privledge of working with Neil as we collorborated with others for the good of those seeking recovery throughout our province. It was always clear to me that he deeply cared about others, wanted to do the right thing and loved his work. It is with a deep saddness that I learned of his sudden death... So sorry to hear about Neil, I did not know him well but my thoughts are with the family.

Neil was, as he even put it, larger than life.  When Neil walked in a room everyone knew it. I will miss his booming voice, his quirky sense humor and his kindness.   I will always remember Neil‘s mastery of the English language and his teasing about my misuse of words and phrases.  Having a conversation with Neil was always fun and interesting as he had this uncanny ability to come up with oddest of facts on the topic at hand.
He worked with men in addictions and he never judged, he shared his wisdom and gave them hope.  Neil was that person that people called even after many years, if they found trouble and needed help.  In those moments Neil listened, was the calm and a source of hope. 
Neil is already missed but he will never be forgotten as he has touched many hearts.

What a smart and funny guy Neil was! He had a heart as big as they get. I cannot believe that he is gone so suddenly, when he should have had so much of his life still ahead.  Even though I have lived away from Halifax for so many years, Neil is one person I thought about nearly every day. I am so sad.
