O'Halloran, Patrick Joseph, age 78, of Halifax, passed away on October 21, 2014 after living life to the fullest despite his struggles with lung cancer and COPD. Born in Halifax, he was the oldest son of the late John (Jack) and the late Pearl (Eisner) O'Halloran. In his youth, "Pat” was an accomplished swimmer, a love he shared with his children and grandchildren, saving drowning swimmers on at least two occasions. Pat approached life with a quiet strength, integrity, and a commitment to his values, highest of which were care for family, and then care for others, especially children. Pat found great joy in family, friends and people in general. He was “Uncle Pat”, and later “Poppy”, to his own family, and every child in the neighbourhood, always keeping a stash of treats for everyone who came by. Everyone loved and respected Pat’s generosity and kindness, which he showed to all. He loved to camp, mostly for the opportunities to meet new people and he made many friends over the years, including his friends at Northwood, where he organized and catered the Saturday afternoon Rummoli game. Pat's first job was packing groceries, he worked his way up through the ranks, becoming manager of many stores for Sobey’s and IGA. At the time of his retirement, he was working in the main office for Bolands Ltd. Post retirement, he worked as a crossing guard, which he loved, always handing out treats on special occasions. And he could often be found walking his beloved dog Sarah around the neighborhood. He had a strong work ethic, which he passed on to his children, along with his kind and gentle regard for others, especially those who needed care.
Pat is survived by his daughter Terri Paris (Marty Loppie) and son Steven (Patricia); companion Geraldine Josey; sister Theresa, brother Michael (Pat); daughter-in-law Betty; grandchildren Shawn O’Halloran (Trina); Rayanne, and MJ Loppie; Chris (Trine Sawler), Brendan (Amber Chenard), and Niall (Katie) O’Halloran and 8 great grandchildren, the newest born just hours before his death. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends who mourn his passing. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Gretchen, his son Patrick, brothers Dennis, Timothy, and Terrance.
