

Born in Halifax, Ferne was a daughter of the late Edward and Emma Hatter. In her younger years she worked at Moirs Limited as a chocolate packer and returned to work as a mail sorter in the Main Post Office in Halifax from 1957 – 1967.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Laurel (Harold) Westhaver; Lynda Eddy, Nadiene Javornick; Kathleen Moore; sons, Steven (Peggy) and Michael (Marian); 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Ferne was predeceased in April 2002 by her loving husband of 61 years, Arthur Joseph; sister, Violet McGrath; brother, Lloyd Johnson.
Visitation will take place in Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street on Tuesday, May 27 from 7 – 9 p.m., where a memorial service will take place Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m. with Rev. John Morell officiating.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. S. Gibbon and specialist, Dr. Ginther, Geriatric Medicine, the Palliative Care Unit in the VG site, QEII, the Victorian Order of Nurses, Northwood Home Care, and Nightingale Nursing for their care and support over the years.
Very special thanks to Marsha Mailman (family friend) who had come to help Mom (and Dad) around the house and ended up being with Mom for 24 years. She was wonderful to Mom and Mom thought of her, not only as a great friend, but as one of the family.
