It is with immense sorrow that the family of Rudy Klinger announce his passing, in Dartmouth General Hospital on March 9, 2023, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 65.
Rudy was born in New Waterford to James and Lucy Klinger. After graduating at the top of his class in high school, Rudy moved to Halifax and attended Saint Mary’s University, and ultimately attained his Electrical Engineering Degree and Professional Engineering Designation from the Technical University of Nova Scotia in 1980. He then began his 35 year long career at Maritime Tel & Tel, working there through its various iterations, ultimately retiring from Bell Canada. Rudy loved his work at Bell and made many wonderful friends there, who held a special place in his heart.
Rudy was a talented engineer who enjoyed analyzing data and providing detailed responses to every question. He never passed an opportunity to put information into a spreadsheet! In retirement, Rudy continued to work with Bell on a contract basis.
Rudy's favourite hobbies included listening to music, playing his guitar with friends and watching Formula One races (a highlight was attending the Montreal Formula One in 2014). Most of all, Rudy enjoyed spending time with the loves of his life, his son Adam and granddaughter Marlee. He loved family gatherings with them and particularly enjoyed taking Marlee on trips to Cape Breton to visit Great Grampy and Nanny Lucy. Rudy will be remembered for his fierce loyalty to friends and family.
Rudy is survived by his son, Adam, and his granddaughter, Marlee. He is also survived by his mother, Lucy Klinger, New Waterford; his siblings: Bruce (Kimberly Bungay), Halifax; Mary Lou, Halifax; Kenneth (Colleen MacIntyre), Toronto; Richard (Katie), Brandon, Manitoba; nieces: Cameron and Keelin, Toronto; his special cousin John Cathcart (Darlene) and many beloved cousins and friends both near and far, including his former wife, Leah Maloney, Mahone Bay; and his former mother-in-law, Evelyn Maloney, Mahone Bay.
He was predeceased by his father, James Klinger, twin sisters Noel and Michelle, in infancy, and his nephew, Conlan.
Next time you see a spreadsheet, think of Rudy.
