Sandra Louise Whynot was born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia on April 24th, 1947 and passed away peacefully on March 10th, 2023 after a courageous battle with leukemia. She was predeceased by her parents, Theresa and Harry Whynot. Sandra is survived by her sister Patrice Whynot, niece Laura Hartlen (Tom), nephew Steven Harmon (Christine) and great-nephews Sam and Maddox Harmon.
Sandra was loved by all and affectionately known as “Aunt Wee” by many. This nickname was given to her by her niece when she was a child, while being twirled around by her wonderful Aunt. Laura could not pronounce Sandra’s name at the time, so the nickname stuck and lasted a lifetime. Sandra lived a full and selfless life, while caring for others for much of her 75 years. This included her time as a nurse and a loving family member.
Sandra trained as a nurse in Windsor, Nova Scotia and went on to work for the Red Cross in Kingston, Vancouver, California, Virginia and Halifax. She held various positions during her tenure within blood transfusion services, tissue services and long-term care. She had the opportunity to live in many beautiful places and living close to the mountains also provided the opportunity for her to ski, which she very much enjoyed. During her travels as a nurse, she also met her best friend, Barb Kelly. This friendship meant the world to Sandra and she could not have asked for a more loyal and genuine person to be by her side. Sandra enjoyed caring for others and when she retired from the Red Cross, she returned home to Nova Scotia to take care of her ailing mother for several years.
Giving herself to others is simply who she was and it was in her loving spirit to continuously help and give. Her favorite saying speaks volumes for who she was........”you make a living by what you get, you make a life by what you give”-Winston Churchill. She was a tremendous person, who never judged and only wanted the best for those around her. We will miss our sister, friend and Aunt Wee dearly. We love you Sandra!
