Susan Turner (nee Henderson)
We sadly announce the passing of Sue Turner on July 15, 2025. Sue lived a full and active life, rich with laughter, travel, biking, and dedication to her family. Known for her sassiness, take-charge personality and butter tarts, Sue never stopped.
Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Sue was the second oldest child of John and Sis Henderson. Raised as a military child, Sue grew up at the Shearwater Base and in Scotland. Sue and Bill met and married in Halifax, where their travel adventures started. Their family grew with the births of Candace Paula in Newfoundland, Tracy in Halifax, and Jennie in Montreal. The family moved to various cities, including Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Vancouver. In each city, Sue's career in Adult Education flourished, including management and executive roles at the Manitoba Government, Boeing, and BC Hydro.
The places closest to her heart were the cottage at Royal Lake, MB, their home in Gateway, Fort Myers, Florida, and Bill and Sue's condo in downtown Halifax. Sue and Bill's loving relationship of over 52 years was filled with laughter, travel, bridge, wine, and fun with friends.
Sue was a loving and fun grandmother to Carly, Lindsey, Brooke, Evan, and Quinn. She crocheted baby blankets for all of them, as well as for many other friends and family members. She teased, shopped, read, rode roller coasters, and even showed off her underwater handstands for them.
Predeceased by her parents Sis and John Henderson, sister Eileen Henderson, and brother Ross Henderson, Sue is survived by her husband Bill; brother Mike (Anne Nares); and her three daughters: Candace Paula (Jeff Atherton), Tracy (Joe Maloney), and Jennie (Pat Richards). She was adored by her five grandchildren: Carly, Lindsey, Brooke, Evan, and Quinn.
Her family is grateful for the love, care, and compassion given by Hospice Halifax. Donations may be made to the Hospice Society of Greater Halifax.
