I was shocked to read of Sue’s passing, I was  planning to message her to see when we both may be in Halifax. 

I lived with Sue for a year after we graduated from Teacher’s College.

 I was so pleased to spend time with  Sue and Bill 2 years ago at the college reunion in Truro. We made plans to get together with our other two roommates in Halifax before more time went by.

Sue’s career had taken a different path in education but we still remembered and chuckled about our early years teaching 6 and 7 year olds 50 + years ago.

Sue and Bill lived a very full and happy life. She spoke with pride of her daughters and grandchildren. She had just as much energy and love of fun as she had in the early days of our careers.

She will be  so missed.

The Henderson family was part of our very close military family in Shearwater, N.S. They were an integral part of my upbringing from ages: 5-15. 
We shared a lifetime in those 10 years!  Mike, your sisters were, one of kind, and  I will miss them forever.

I wish to express sincere condolences on your loss of a spouse, a mother, and a grandmother. I received the bad news of Sue's passing with profound shock and heartfelt sadness, for Sue was a large influence in the latter part of my working life.
Shortly after I met Sue, I became a 'charter member' of the Technical Training team she put together at BC Hydro. For myself it represented sailing into uncharted waters when I put my name forward. It was an honor to be selected, but after 35 years in the trade, it was scary to leave the security of the cocoon I had built for myself.
But Sue had leadership skills, she had a vision, she inspired us to follow; at times she had to cajole us, and at times I felt she was twisting my arm. The 5 years I spent with the training team was the hardest I ever worked. It was a new and different kind of work for me, but those years were also the most fun I ever had in my working life.
Thank you Sue, and goodbye, I'm glad we walked the same path for those 5 years.

I enjoyed working with Sue for so many years through our association in the fields of workplace essential skills, and BC Hydro training. Most fondly, I recall our travel together to a conference in Nottingham, England, where we bunked together in student quarters at the University, Beatle music wafting through our windows.  We counted ourselves the most fortunates ever. Sue always brought the thrill of adventure to every endeavour.

Wonderful memories of the Bike and Barge trip instigated by Sue!  L-R:  Melanie Allen, Sue (our leader), Pam Stevens, and Elsie Rivard (the Americano rep.).  Taking a break at the windmills park.  After our bike and barge trip, we took the train to Belgium for 3 more days of exploration and fun with Gateway (Fort Myers, FL) friends.

It is so difficult to realize Sue is gone...and not just for the summer.  Knowing Sue and Bill Turner has been a highlight of our Gateway community (Fort Myers, FL)  existence.  Sue leaves many friends behind who miss her dearly.  Rest in peace, sweet Sue.

I am so sorry to hear this.  Sue and I met in the nineties through our work with Workplace Education Manitoba and then I took over her job with the provincial government. She built such a strong and big foundation for me to carry on. I admired her greatly. I feel blessed to have spent some time with her in the recent past on a trip to Winnipeg.

The BC Hydro training team and I that Sue led want to pass on our heartfelt condolences to Bill, her daughters and families. When Sue arrived at BC Hydro, we left the secure world of the shop floor and entered Sue’s world of being on a journey of adult education where the destination was ever changing. Believe it was a perfect match where Sue was the Ying and we were the Yang, which resulted in a great team filled with passion for learning, hard work and fun. Under Sue’s leadership we grew as leaders and served our second apprenticeship in the trainer role. Sue was a wonderful mentor to all of us, and we thank her for all her wisdom, knowledge and caring approach. She will be missed by us all but not forgotten.

I am so sorry to hear of Sue's passing. She was always so vibrant. A lovely person to know and I am glad to have had the opportunity to have worked with her. My condolences to her family.

What a shock to read about Sue’s passing.  Our parents were great friends since Shearwater days so I’ve known her my whole life.  I have fond memories of her growing up such as, picnics at the A’s cottage; babysitting me and her visits before moving to Ottawa.  It was nice to reconnect through Facebook years ago.  My sincerest condolences to Mike and the family and to Sue’s hubby and girls.  ♥️

I knew Sue since 1960 in our Shearwater years  - she and my sister were good friends and her sister Elaine and I were close friends.  A few years ago Sue joined our group of “Shearwater friends” and it was so nice to welcome her “back” to her childhood roots. I am shocked to read this obituary and send my deepest condolences to her family - she always spoke so highly of you all.  We will miss having her join us during our occasional gatherings.  Rest in peace Sue.

Omg I am so sorry to hear this news of Sue’s passing.A lot of great  memories when they both lived in Newfoundland They were a big part of myself and my wife Lillian’s wedding.

Sue and I met in 1992 when she was coordinating Workplace Education Manitoba and I was with the federal government. She demonstrated creativity and ingenuity in developing a business/labour/government partnership that was replicated in other provinces. She was direct, didn’t suffer fools and delivered beyond expectations. I’m fortunate that we became friends and had so many adventures across Canada – Vancouver, Yellowknife, Whitehorse, Calgary, Montreal, Halifax as well as our trips to Milwaukee to promote workplace education. Even after we both moved on from our roles we stayed in touch. Our “under the dome” gang met from time to time. The two of us also met often over the past number of years when she was in Ottawa dealing with tragedies in her family. In 2023, we traveled together to Winnipeg so she could renew old acquaintances, and we even fitted in a visit to the cottage at Royal Lake. Sue was so active, so alive that it has been difficult for me to believe she is gone. I am grateful for our times together and her friendship.

A group of us across the country shared so many exciting adventures as we explored the possibilities and the need for workplace literacy and later, essential skills, development.  We worked hard, and we played hard.  Sue anchored us.  She always made sure we reached further.  Sue was an ‘I can, I will’ person, and always with a smile and laughter.  I will miss you ‘under the dome’ Sue, thank you for so many wonderful and enduring memories.  My condolences to your family, whom you always talked about with such love.

Sue was by far the best boss I ever had, so good in fact that I always thought of her as a collaborator rather than a supervisor. And, of course, she became a dear friend to both Sande and me. We send our love and deepest condolences to the whole family in this time of loss.

Sue was a great friend and colleague.  She came to Manitoba in the early 90’s.  I immediately realized here talents and encouraged her to work for workplace education for the province.  She took that job and ran with it.  She developed a model of workplace education that was admired internationally.  

She and Bill were also great friends.  We loved visiting them at Royal Lake and latterly in an Ontario.  She was always so straight, so direct,  it she loved to know what was going on.  Occasionally she would find out some tidbit of gossip and she’d say to me, “did you know about so and so?”  Often I did know and she’d say”what didn’t you tell me?”   I’d reply, “I forgot “. ( I’m a bad gossiper.).

Sue was always encouraging development and identifying what would work best.  She was a great friend and colleague.   I will miss her.

Jennie and Sue weren’t the traditional mother daughter. No, they were a reflection of compassion, a close relationship where a beer after a fair days ride was the order of the day.
I had the pleasure of their company on a cycling trip. A life bucket list of my husbands who admired Anne Mustoe. Like Anne, Sue was a teacher of life’s journeys.
Bill, we met on a cruise stop, a glowing amber person who Sue admired with love and devotion.Take heed young man, a mariner, of Greek heritage.
