

Allen, Warren age 95 Halifax passed away March 14, 2017 in Camphill Veterans Memorial Building . Warren was born on December 20, 1921 in Grand Falls, Newfoundland, where he attended school through grade 11, graduating at age 15. From graduation until 1939, he was unemployed during the depression years. In September 1939, he had a major hernia operation. He enlisted in the military in 1941 but was turned down because of medical reasons. In 1940, he went to work at the paper mill as a Talley Man for the wood section. In 1942, he decided to become a Tool and Die Maker and left the Island for Montreal, flying in a
Short Sutherland flying Boat from Botwood to Shediac NB, and he entered Canada as a landed immigrant. He attended L’Ecole Technique de Montreal to learn his trade. There, he had an emergency operation for a large abscess at which time the doctors cleared the hernia problem, which had bothered him since it was performed.
His health now better allowed Warren to join the RCAF, and was sent across Canada as far as Patricia Bay in BC, to Newfoundland and to Northern Canada. While in Yellowknife, NWT, he flew in Anson Bombers to do photographic work of the North for the Canadian Government.
In 1946, he went to DVA School to obtain his grade 13 so as to attend university to take Dentistry. First he had to take a course in Latin to qualify. In 1947, health problems forced him to stop Dentistry. He went on to take Commerce, and graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. From 1950 to 1961, he was a Commercial Traveller, working for the Bishop Asphalt Papers Ltd as Regional Sales Manager for the Atlantic Provinces. He was a Sales Representative for Flint Kote Ltd after 1961 for one year, covering the Atlantic Provinces.
Warren married in 1952, and is survived by sons Michael, W.David and a daughter Betty, as well as three grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
At age 41, Warren had a kidney stone operation.
From 1963 to March 1986, Warren was the Registrar-Councillor at N.S.I.T. He joined the Golden “K” Club in 1988, and he received a 15-year service pin from the IWK. His extracurricular activities also included working with the Diabetic Society, Maritime Division, on the Executive board. A Funeral service will be held 2pm Tuesday March 21,2017 in Cruikshank’s Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. Halifax, with Martha Martin officiating. Interment in Fairview Cemetery.
