Obituary
Rev. Dr. William F. "Doc" Jones, age 91 of Hamilton, passed away on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at Kettering Medical Center. He was born on July 11, 1924 in Hamilton, the son of the late Mark Andrew and Margaret (Coakley) Jones. On May 30, 1959 in Hamilton, Bill married his wife of over 26 years, Donna J. (Purdy) Jones, and she preceded him in death on October 12, 1985. Bill was a US Navy Veteran where he served as a Quartermaster Third Class aboard the USS LST 1025 during WWII, earning the American Area Ribbon, the Asiatic Pacific Area Ribbon with 2 stars, the Philippine Liberation Area Ribbon with 2 stars and the WWII Victory Ribbon. During the Korean War, he served as a Hospital Corpsman Third Class. Bill served as a Board Member of the Butler County Veterans Service Commission from 2000-2005 and recently held the position as Commander of the American Legion Post 138 and was the current Post Chaplain. Just this past November, he was awarded the honor of Butler County Veteran of the Year for 2014. He had been the Assistant Administrator at Fort Hamilton Hughes Memorial Hospital until 1986, the Associate Pastor at First United Methodist Church, and most recently, the groundskeeper and current full-time Chaplain at Westover. Bill is survived by his son, Ronald Jones; daughter, Carrie (Dale) Titus; grandchildren, Shawn (Angela) Jones, Mark (Sarah) Jones, Aaron (Dawn) Jones, Bryan (Krista) Griffie, Megan (Drew) Griffie and Cara Jones; eleven great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; siblings, Bernard (Marcina) Jones, Edward (Rosalie) Jones and Lois Carroll; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Donna. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2015 from 3pm until 6pm at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South "D" Street, Hamilton. Funeral Service will be held at 10am on Monday, December 21, 2015 at the funeral home with Rev. Valerie Waibel officiating. Interment will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park.
