Elverna “Vernie” Abney, age 88 of Hamilton passed away at home on January 27, 2022. She was born in Berea, KY on September 26, 1933 to Algin and Edna (Raines) Hatton. She enjoyed gardening, yardwork, housekeeping, dancing, fishing, boating, and spending time with family. On April 8, 1950, she married Virgil Abney and together they had three children.
She is survived by her children, Debbie Hibbard and Tony (Debi) Abney; her grandchildren, Melinda McCarty, Zach Hibbard, Angela (Sean) Mondello, and Dustin Abney; her great grandchildren, Kylie, Sean Michael, Kennedy, Aislin, Taygen, and Ellie; numerous other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her baby, Randall David; her husband of 65 years, Virgil Abney; her brothers, Pete and Jake Hatton; and her parents.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2022 from 12:00 Noon until time of funeral service at 1:00 PM with Pastor Valerie McCann officiating at Rose Hill Funeral Home 2565 Princeton Road Hamilton, OH 45011. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Burial Park. Memorial Contributions may be made to Shared Harvest Food Bank 5901 Dixie Highway, Fairfield, OH 45014.
