Jack C. "Slick" Goebel, 83, formerly of Hamilton, Ohio died on Friday, September 26, 2014 at his son's home in Springboro, Ohio. Born in 1931 in Hamilton to Gordon and Lula (Lewis) Goebel, he married Jane Katherine Rose in 1960. Jack graduated from Hamilton High in 1949 and began his career in the Construction Gang at Champion Papers, retiring from the Knightsbridge Maintenance Department in 1996. While Jack did not think of himself as a teacher, he was a great one. As a mentor, he was patient and giving. An avid amateur athlete, Jack once called/caught a perfect game (fastpitch) and rolled a 300 at the Elks National Bowling Tournament. He was Director of the Elktones chorus and gave his time to local Civil Defense efforts, the CEAA, and the F.O.P. #38. He was a member of the 4F Club, Hugh Bates Lodge #686, F & AM, Ancient & Accepted Order of Scottish Rite, Valley of Cincinnati and B.P.O. Elks #93. Jack is survived by his sons, Steve (Melanie) Goebel of Springboro and Scott (Emily) Goebel of Fort Thomas, Kentucky; grandchildren: Julie (Brion) Treadway of Hamilton, Nicklas (Ashley) Goebel of Centerville, Katherine (Jason) Sugg of Concord, California, Jacqueline Goebel and Aaron Goebel of Springboro and Ella Goebel of Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Great-grandchildren include: Jackson Goebel, Brooks, Ava, Maddie and Boone Treadway. He is survived by his step-siblings Audrey (Ellis) South of Fort Myers, Florida and Don (Lois) Ramsey of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He leaves behind a great number of friends and colleagues, notably William "Bill" Turner, whose lifetime of friendship, bowling, playing Pitch, and sharing of memories was a great comfort. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a son, Maury S. Goebel, as well his step-father, Murray Ramsey & step-siblings Jack Ramsey and Annie Sullivan. Jack was the last founding member of the Nutone barbershop quartet, with whom he sang lead, alongside Jack Bateman (tenor), Howard Brown / Fred Belden (baritone) & Frank Hessler (bass). Family and friends will gather to celebrate Jack's life at 1 p.m. at the F.O.P. Lodge, 180 Joe Nuxhall Way in Joyce Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hospice of Dayton, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, OH 45420. The family thanks Dr. William Krall and Hospice of Dayton for their support. Thanks especially to Cheryl Sizemore for caring like a daughter for Jack and to Gary and Julie Beall for their earnest ability to make him an important part of their lives.
