Johannes (Hans) Schade, age 54, passed away at home surrounded by his family on November 2, 2016. He was born December 12, 1961 to the late Johannes and Liesel Schade. He moved to Toronto, ON in 1977 and attended St Michael’s Choir school. He went on to graduate from the University of Toronto with a B.S., M.S. and a Doctorate in Metallurgical Engineering. He married Dory (Debets) Schade on August 4, 1984 and they moved to Ohio in January of 1990 when Hans began working at AK Steel. He had a long, accomplished career in the Research Department, and was most recently the Corporate Manager of Research. Hans was an active member of his parish, St. Maximilian Kolbe, where he was a Eucharistic Minister, cantor, member of Pastoral Council and the Worship Commission. Together with Dory, he helped prepare couples for marriage. In 2009 he felt called to serve the church as a Deacon and began studying at the Athenaeum of Ohio where he earned his MaPM. He was proud to be ordained on April 30, 2016 and it was a great joy to him to officiate at his son’s wedding in May and to give his first Sunday homily in September. Hans loved all of the ministries he was involved in, and was called to help others grow in their faith. His devotion to God was an inspiration to all who met him. Hans also enjoyed being a marathon walker, traveling, music, and spending time with his family. One of the biggest joys in his life was spending time with his granddaughter Madelyn. The two loved singing, playing, and laughing together. He will be remembered for his storytelling ability, gift of making others laugh, kindness, and fierce love for God and family. Hans is survived by his wife of 32 years, Dory, his children Stephanie Coleman (Peter), Cassandra, and Christopher (Katie), his granddaughter Madelyn (Coleman), brother Michael Schade (Dee McKee) and family, sister Isabelle Lyons (Jim) and children, Aunt Sixta Lacraz, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. A Reception of the Body and Evening Prayer for the Dead will be held at 4pm on Sunday, November 6, 2016 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 5720 Hamilton Mason Road, Liberty Township, OH 45011. Visitation will be held following the Evening Prayer until 8pm at the church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on November 7, 2016 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish. Interment will follow at Woodside Cemetery in Middletown, OH. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Athenaeum of Ohio or to Hospice of Southwest Ohio.
