John “Mike” Baker, age 79 of Hanover Township, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 19, 2025 surrounded by the family he cherished most. He was born on July 27, 1945 in Waynesburg, KY, the son of the late Elmer and Lillie Pearl (Sanford) Baker. John proudly served his country in the United States Army, settling in Ohio, where he built a life full of love, laughter, and unwavering dedication to his family. He worked in the paper industry for 42 years, retiring from International Paper in 2011. John was a lifelong Cincinnati Reds fan, a man who never missed a game — or a chance to cheer on his loved ones in life. Whether it was a school event, a ballgame, or just a Sunday dinner, he was always there. He believed in showing up, and he did — with a warm heart, a proud smile, and so much love to give. He shared 54 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Diana, and together they raised three daughters who were his pride and joy: Sherry Baker, Michelle Baker, and Angela Baker. John was the kind of father who led with love — steady, dependable, and always there when it mattered most. He was a proud grandfather to Jacqueline (Jeff) Short, Vanessa (Matt) Crank, Amanda Wallace, and Brittany Wallace, and nothing brought him more joy than watching them grow, cheering them on, and being a constant presence in their lives. To his great-grandchildren — Madison, Brooklyn, Alexa, Reagan, Paisley, Mckenzie, Lynlee, and Ronan — he was their beloved Papaw, full of hugs, smiles, and gentle wisdom. His eyes lit up whenever they were near, and his love for them was endless. John is also survived by his siblings, Jerry (Brenda) Baker, Dolores Weinman, Wilma (Jim) Alexander, and Jeannie Lee. John’s greatest joy in life was being surrounded by his people. All he ever wanted was to see his family happy and together. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers-in-law, Richard Weinman and Mike Lee. A Visitation will be held from 11am until 12pm on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South “D” Street, Hamilton with a Funeral Service beginning at 12pm. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Condolences may be left for the family at www.Webb-Noonan.com
