Memories of Joyce - Baby sister - what a joy! - I can remember the anticipation we had waiting for Joyce's birth and the joy she has brought into my life ever since - - as a baby and toddler I got to sew for her and help take care of her - - and as a little girl and teen she followed me around and I got to take her places with me --and as a wife and mother I got to spend summers with her in Ohio.  She has been a real blessing to me her entire life and I will miss her so much.  Many times in the summer our best hours would be spent doing projects together, shopping and interacting with the kids.  Sometimes at night, we would put the kids to bed and get them all asleep and leave them with Rick (asleep too!) and go to Meijers..or Steak and Shake...or yes, even White Castle to get a little time away and have a good time just shopping and giggling.  I appreciate all the times I got to share with her and I loved her so much as a little sister and a best friend.  Julie, Jeff, Amy and Jon (and Rick) became very important people in my life and will continue to be.  My heart goes out to you as we all share the loss of a beautiful life well lived.  Follow in the footsteps of your mom and dad, their example and their admonition to you.  You have some precious memories - hang on to those and cherish them and let God lead you.  I love you very much and I'm here for you.

I felt very blessed that Dwight, Jennie and I were able to go to Ohio May 27th and arrived May 28th.  We were very thankful to be there and help care for Joyce and spend the time with her.  It was a real blessing to have that special time with her.  I appreciate looking back on the hours I sat with her and held her hand and promised we would not leave her alone.  During that time I thought about the scripture "Fear thou not; for I am with thee; be not dismayed; for I am thy God; I will strengthen thee; yea I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." Also the scripture that he promised "for he hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." Heb 13:5  What a comfort that was to me and I'm sure to her.
Several times I rememberd even before she was born we were so afraid she would not make it since I almost lost her 3 months before she was born.  We prayed very earnestly for God to spare her and give us this little girl.  When she was born, she was my largest baby.  We were so thankful to have her and knew God had heard and answered our prayers.  I thank the Lord for her beautiful life. A couple of days before God took her I was praying and talking to the Lord about her and he brought the thought "she'd be safe in the arms of Jesus."  It has been a great comfort to me in my great loss.  There is no question about where she is today.  The Lord is so good and is really a comfort at this time.

When I try to imagine your grief, the gamut of emotions you must be feeling, I have no words to say that will make it better. Please know that I love you all very much. I'm sorry I couldn't make it to the funeral, but you have been often in my thoughts and prayers. If you ever need to get away, North Idaho is a lovely, restful place! Love, Linnie and Cameron

Julie, Dennis, Jeff, Amy and Jon- Where do I even begin to express my sadness over the loss of such a wonderful sweet aunt. I'm saddened all the more knowing my kids will never really get to know what a super aunt they had. I have so many fond memories of Aunt Joyce,staying up late playing games, and she always knew how to make me laugh, she had such a great sense of humor, she was one of the women i loved and admired a great deal in my life,and i see her sweet spirit and love of others shining in all her kids. Please know you have lots of family here in OK, that love you all dearly and will do anything for you, all you need to do is ask.

Your mother was a very special person. Her passing has left a void in all our hearts. When I came into the family i had no sisters and God blessed me with a lot of them when Willie and I married. Your mother was very special to me. I love you all very much. If you ever need us we are here for you.

Jonathan & I talked about our last visit and discussed every year how we could come back to OH. We are incredibly sad - I will miss the looong stories, the funny smile, the sillies, the serious talks. I said more than once that I needed to check back in down the road for some parenting suggestions & I will miss that opportunity. I will miss her zest and the way interesting things just seemed to happen when Joyce was around!

Dear Julie, Dennis, Jeff, Amy and Jonnie,

My mother told me one time that your mom was the one who came and stayed with my older brothers so that she and Daddy could go to the hospital the night I was born.  She was there to help out when my life began, and she has been a special part of the rest of it.  What stands out particularly - an 8th birthday party at your house when we were on the road and visiting before heading off to campmeeting, complete with a cake with orange icing (I'm sure she and Mother collaborated on that one.), letters she wrote to me when I was on a "pen pal" kick in my pre-teen years, and comparing crochet patterns even just a few years ago.  She was such fun to be around and her smile and laugh will always be in my memories.  Who can forget the hike around the lake after Dwayne's wedding?  So many memories... It's so hard to realize that there won't be additional memories to come.  She is definitely missed.

In the days ahead, if you just need someone to talk to, someone to listen, I'm just a phone call away.  Love you all.

It's hard to believe Aunt Joyce is really gone.  She was such a fun person to be around.  She was blessed with a precious gift...the gift of hospitality, and the ability to make everyone feel welcome wherever she was at.  I can remember the few times we stayed at her house...we always felt so loved and like she truly wanted to be with us.  Even when she came to OK to visit, she always made it a point to visit with everyone and ask about your life.  I really admired that in her.  She had a vibrant personality that could be witnessed from across a room.  She just lit the room up.  
And her relationship with Uncle Rick...it was something you don't see very often anymore.  The friendship that was there.  It was a very special thing to see.  You could tell she was over the moon about him, and he with her.  Alan and I have always said..."we want a marriage like Aunt Joyce and Uncle Rick's."  I remember the last time we went to visit before Uncle Rick got so sick...it was in June, and Joyce and Rick were getting ready to go on their annual anniversary trip.  They welcomed us into their home, even spent the evening with us (when they should've been packing!), then they left early the next morning.  We didn't get to visit with them much that trip, but (if I remember correctly) it turned out to be their last anniversary trip together, and I wouldn't have changed that for the world.  
Aunt Joyce (and Uncle Rick) will always hold a special place in our hearts.  She was very very dear to us, and will be missed very much.
Julie & Dennis, Jeffrey, Amy and Johnnie...we continue to pray for you.  As much as we miss Joyce, we can't even imagine the hole in your hearts and lives right now.  Much love and hugs from us, and know you are in our thoughts and prayers and will be in the months and year to come.

Dear Julie, Dennis, Jeff, Amy and Jonnie,

Your mom was so special.  She was always someone I felt I could connect with.  I'll always remember her smile and her laugh. I enjoyed coming to visit and sneaking out with her to get a Dr. Pepper. I am so thankful for all of the time we got to spend together through the years.  I have so many happy memories of her. I'm thankful for that.  I miss her so much.

You are all so special to us.  We love you all and are here for you if you ever need anything.
