Lawrence F. Haskell age 92, a life long resident of Liberty Township, passed away Wednesday December 7, 2011 in his home. He was born November 9, 1919 in Liberty Township the son of the late Charles and Mary (Ross) Haskell. Mr. Haskell served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was a decorated combat veteran. He was the recipient of four Bronze Stars for valor and the Purple Heart for wounds received in June, 1945. He worked as a die setter at Miami Carey from 1946-1985. Mr. Haskell, affectionately known as "Red", was a charter member of the Liberty Township Volunteer Fire Department and served for over 40 years, well into his 90's. He was assistant fire chief for 30 years, and was the acting fire chief from January 1, 1961- March 31, 1961. As he lived near the fire station he often acted as the driver/engineer for old engine #1. Mr. Haskell is survived by his daughter-in-law Kathleen Haskell, his grandson Thomas Owen (Jana) Haskell, and many other family members and close friends. He was also preceded in death by his only son, Lawrence Freeman Haskell, Jr. on December 26, 2005. Visitation 6-8 PM Friday at THE WEBSTER HOME 3080 Homeward Way at Rt. 4 Fairfield.
