

Age 90, of Hamilton, died at Tri-County Extended Care Center on Thursday, January 23, 2014. She was born in Oneida, TN on June 11, 1923 the daughter of James Isaac and Rosa Etta Smith. As a young woman, Nellie worked at the Oak Ridge National Laboratories in Oak Ridge TN. There she met her future husband, Daymon C. Sutton, Jr., a young Marine home from WW II. They were married for fifty-eight years and he preceded her in death on March 3, 2004. Nellie loved life and always had a quick smile or a kind word for everyone. She swam at the “Y” in Hamilton for many years. She enjoyed reading and gardening but most of all loved being with her family. Nellie is survived by her four daughters, Rose Ann (Errol) Flynn, Margaret Sutton, Mary Catherine Sutton, and Virginia Kay (Doug) Day; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Sue (Steve) Oriola, Paula Renee (John) Robinson, Stephen Scott Flynn, Angela Renee (Jeff) Rosteet, Shellie (Ken) Fox, Drema Amanda (Andy) Sams, and Douglas Aaron Day; fourteen great-grandchildren, Adam, Samantha Rose, Timothy, Michael, Annie, Sophie Rose, Reece Olivia, Celeste Alana, Mason, Cameron, Nathan, Lindsi, Bryce and Blake; a brother, James H. Smith; and two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Young and Louise Merritt. Besides her parents and husband, Nellie was preceded in death by her siblings, Arthur, Herbert, Ed, Viola Smith, Ruth Liddil and son-in-law, Errol Scott Flynn. Visitation will be held at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, 240 Ross Ave., on Monday 11:00 AM till time of funeral service at 12 noon with Rev. John H. Spring and Pastor Alan Weaver officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Burial Park. Nellie’s family wishes to thank all of her care givers at Comfort Keepers, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Tri-County Extended Care.
