The death of Paul E. Farris has saddened his family and friends deeply. But throughout his 91 years, Paul was a man full of life and vigor. He displayed such strong character, honesty, pride and a sharp mind which were maintained even unto death. Though he was an “old school man”, he gradually displayed more warmth and love and changed handshakes to hugs. Paul was wonderful in conversation with a quick mind and wit. He was known for his rambunctious younger days, lifelong stories and a deep repertoire of jokes. Paul was a high school State Champion in Archery and was excellent at billiards. In fact two of his nicknames were 'Poolshark' and 'Crusher'. Another nickname was 'Fairdeal' due to his sales skills like auto sales and at Landmark. Paul was very outgoing and also enjoyed fishing, singing and playing guitar. Willie Nelson was one of his favorites and he even befriended Waylon Jennings during his illustrious performing days. He relished his friends and relations such as Ernest and Mary Ruth.
Paul is survived by:
Son, Doug (Debbie) Farris. Daughters, Terri (Randy) Reed, Linda Mitchell, Cindy Craig, Sherri Kuykendoll, Beth (Brad) Woodall, Debbie (Wayne) Lewis, Linda (Ron) Thompson. Grandchildren, Angie (Bill) Adams, Erica (Phillip) Gibbs, Joshua Gibson, Tessa Woodall, Andy (Sarah) Woodall, Michael (Emily) Woodall, Laura Merkle. Many loved great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Paul certainly had a way of attracting the attention and admiration of women due to his outgoing personality. Indeed, he attracted the love of his life, Betty Farris with whom he shared many wonderful years in marriage. Betty was the love of his life and would say, “even though other women may flirt with Paul, he always goes home with me”.
Paul turned 91 years old only days before his quiet and painless death attended by the wonderful hospice nurses. Having faced down death several times but surviving, Paul’s survival was unfortunately faced with mourning his lovely wife, Betty most every day since she died 12 years earlier. His thoughts dwelled on that love he and Betty shared. A true love that is unending and remains for eternity. The thought and hope of their spiritual reunion was at least some comfort and may have sparked a belief in a soul that does not disappear but can transcend death.
It is also of comfort to Paul’s surviving family and friends, that Paul may indeed be going home to Betty.
