He grew up on a farm in Monon, Indiana with his sister, Bessie and brothers, Earl, Jr. and Lewis. Bob met the love of his life while in high school and was married to Jacqueline Werre on March 17, 1956 in Rensselaer, Indiana. Bob and Jackie celebrated 57 years together this year. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force and won SAC Airman of the Month while stationed in Lincoln, Nebraska. After completing his term in the Air Force, Bob attended Purdue University in the School of Engineering. He joined the university staff while still in school, working in their new computer department. This exposure to computers led him to employment with a computer consulting firm in Middletown, Ohio. Shortly afterwards, he started working for Champion International in Hamilton and retired in 1998 after 30 years of service. Retirement led to a new career in Lay Ministry, including working on the staff of Bethany United Methodist Church in Shepherding Ministries. Bob became a certified Lay Speaker which gave him the opportunity to preach in many different churches. He was very involved in his church throughout his life. He taught Sunday School and served on various ministry and administrative committees. He and Jackie worked together teaching Disciple Bible Study for many years. Bob served as the Ohio River District Lay Leader for a number of years. He was also involved in the Walk to Emmaus spiritual retreat community and served on the board of the Greater Cincinnati community. His love of others led to many volunteer activities and he served on the boards of American Red Cross and Emergency Money Fund. His best-loved volunteer opportunities were reading to grade-school children at Harrison Elementary and at Fort Hamilton Hospital as a chaplain’s assistant. Bob and Jackie were blessed with four children: Leslie Jewett of Hamilton, Eric (Laura) Jewett of Oxford, Cara (Galen) Butler of Franklin, Virginia and Tracie Jewett of Cincinnati. Grandchildren are Rachel Jewett, Kate Jewett, Kevin Jewett, Knox Butler and Ellis Butler. He was predeceased by his parents and both brothers. He is survived by his wife, Jackie; his children and grandchildren; as well as his sister, Bessie Hagerty; cousin, Helen Widmer who was like a sister to him; and sister-in-law, Betty Kennedy. Those who knew Bob knew he loved God, his wife and family, the Cubs, the Reds and the Purdue Boilermakers. He spent his last day at the ballpark with his family. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2013 from 4:00 pm till 6:00 pm at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Avenue at South “D” Street, Hamilton. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. The family suggests that people show their love for Bob by donating to the charity of their choice. Bob donated blood regularly until his health prevented it, surpassing the 10 gallon level. As a final gift of love, Bob donated his corneas so that others might see.
